Blackhawk Beemer

bmwOn my way to swim class this morning, I pulled up behind a BMW (Beemer).  The back license plate intrigued me.  It was red, lined in black. On the left side, there was the Blackhawks symbol.  Then 4 numbers, 2800.  Then BH, stacked vertically.

Hmmm, I thought, must be an important person.  You can get a vanity plate like the one I saw, as seen below.  BUT….you can only have THREE numbers.  I swear the plate I saw had FOUR.

But whatever.  I could not see who the driver was, as the headrest was very tall.  I could only tell it was a man, from the haircut.

So, I was intrigued, thinking maybe a real Blackhawks player was driving in front of me!

However.  Whoever it was in front of me drove like a real asshole.  Tailgating, weaving out of the lane, checking to see if he could pass, and speeding.  The SUV in front of the Beemer started to get pissed off, and at the next light, slowed down WAY in advance, and the Beemer literally had to stand on his brakes to avoid a collision.

When the light changed, with oncoming traffic approaching in the other lane, this Beemer screamed out from the light, passed the SUV, and gave them the finger.

The SUV turned at the next street.  So now I am behind the Beemer.  He is going at least 20 mph over the speed limit, which is on a dinky two lane road.  I saw the traffic light ahead turned red just as the Beemer was approaching.  He pulled into the left turn lane and stopped.  I pull up to the light directly across from him, and rolled down my window and shouted out to him, hmmmm, guess it wasn’t worth RISKING LIVES to pass that SUV, huh?

He flipped me off, and turned left before the light turned green.

I sure hope it wasn’t a REAL Blackhawks player or official.  I hope it was just a dumb ass fan who had a vanity plate.  After everything going on in the NFL, I just think that athletes should realize that their actions are on display to everyone, especially in public.  You’re driving around in a Beemer with special plates on the car.  Don’t be a dickhead.

Hot guy in a pick ’em up truck

So.  Something happened to me today.  I THINK it was a good thing.  Although in this day and age, who knows.  What happened?  Well it all started with a hot guy in a pickup truck….

After swim class this morning I ran into the Wal-Mart quick, with sweats on, wet hair and no makeup on. After unloading my groceries in my car in the rain I went to put the cart back across the aisle.  A man in a pickup waved me across, so I went.  He waited, and then he waved me back across the aisle again. Then he rolled down his window and said, “Excuse Ma’am, but are you married?”  I was stunned and didn’t know what to say, so I said yes I’m married. Then he said “Well he sure is a lucky man!”, and looked at me very appreciatively.  I stuttered out a thank you and got in my car.  I sat there for a few minutes, thinking the man must have been insane.  He was very good looking!  Was he blind? Not that I could tell.  His eyes were stunning, I think that’s why I was so tongue tied.  I love eyes.  And teeth.  Love good teeth.  He had dark hair and gold eyes and a big white smile, with all his teeth (hey, this is in the Wal-Mart parking lot!)

I shook my head, and then thought up all the witty things I should have said.  Things like, “Hang out here often?”  “Wanna get a burger at Blue Top?”  (The Culvers in front).  “What made you stop?  The wet hair rain drizzle look?”  “Did you like my hip action?  It’s my limp from my new hip replacement”.  Boy, I am one sexy momma out there!

Is this the new dating world?  Men in pickups checking out chicks in the Walmart parking lot?  It crossed my mind to go look for him and tell him, NO, I’m NOT married!  But then I thought, maybe he was a predator of some sort.  I mean, get real, from my description, why would a guy hit on me like that unless he wanted to tie me up and….gulp.  Ok, I’ve read too many books on that subject.  He wasn’t sparkly like a vampire (but it WAS raining), and he wasn’t all furry like a werewolf (but it was day time), and he didn’t look alien or like he had super powers.  He looked….normal.

So.  I’m just going to think of it as a compliment, and next time I go to the Wal-Mart, I’m going to style my hair and put some makeup on.  Who knows what can happen then?

What do you think?  Do you think he was normal, or something else?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

Before you buy that football jersey……

adrianFirst Ray Rice.  Now Adrian Peterson.  This is his little boy that he beat allegedly beat with a branch switch, that left marks and open cuts on his legs, buttocks and hands.  HE WAS FOUR FRICKIN’ YEARS OLD.

The proof is there.  Pictures were posted, after he went for a routine doctor’s visits when he was returned home to his mother.  Routine?  The mother didn’t see the marks on her son?  She didn’t raise hell about it?  WTF?

Peterson did not hide what he did.  He told the police about the whole incident very matter-of-factly.  He did not feel he had done anything wrong.  He had even texted the mother and told her when he was “whooping” the child that he did not realize the “switch” was wrapping around the little boy’s legs and leaving marks on his thighs and scrotum.  Peterson grew up with whoopings, and he stated in the police interview ” Peterson said he would reconsider using switches in the future, but said he would never “eliminate whooping my kids . . . because I know how being spanked has helped me in my life.”

Here’s the sad thing.  Among many sad things.  This kind of stuff goes on all across America, every day.  Whether it be the wife, the girlfriend, the child, the elder…or yes, even the man….somebody is getting beat on.  Somebody is experiencing physical and/or mental abuse.  These NFL players only come to light because of the fame, altho it is said that pro athletes have a higher rate of abuse because of the violent nature of the game they play.  They take it home with them.

Take a look at that picture at the top again.  Adrian Peterson is 6’2″, 217 pounds.  His son is FOUR YEARS OLD.  He got beat because he was fighting with his brother, who was five.  Now, don’t forget, one of Peterson’s sons DIED last year as a victim of aggravated assault by the mother’s boyfriend.  The child was TWO YEARS OLD.  At the time, Adrian made this statement to the press:

“I plan on playing Sunday,” he said. “I will be playing Sunday, correct that. I’ll be ready to roll, focused. I’m worried about getting a W on Sunday, being 1-0… You know, football is something I will always fall back on. It gets me through tough times. Just being around the guys in here, that’s what I need in my life, guys supporting me and just being able to go out and play this game I love. Things that I go through, I’ve said a thousand times, it helps me play this game to a different level. I’m able to kind of release a lot of my stress through this sport, so that’s what I plan on doing.”

Hmmm.  He obviously didn’t release enough stress through football!  And if it seems like he has a lot of small children, you would be right.  He will not admit to how many children he has fathered but sources say around 7.  He has never been married.

So before you run out and buy that expensive football jersey with a player’s name and number on the back….you might want to just go generic.  Otherwise you will be wearing a jersey of the next scandal.   Who knows who’s next.  😦

P.S.  Twitter is full of people upset about their Fantasy Football picks…….guess they’ll have to make some new rules on what to do when your top pick gets suspended or fired for abuse.

“Boy” bands

New Kids on the Block.  Backstreet Boys.  Boyz to Men.

I saw Jordan Knight (NKOTB)  and Nick Carter (BSB) on GMA last week.  They have formed a new group, call Nick & Knight.  They claim NOT to be a boy band, but judging from the sycronized dance moves and pop sound they were  lip synching singing, I beg to differ.

I loved the boy bands, back in the 80’s and 90’s.  Nsync was my favorite.  I loved their songs and dance moves, and did them with my little step-daughter and niece all the time.  I would embarrass myself on my pontoon boat in the Chain O Lakes singing and dancing with the all the kids.  (I especially loved doing The Macarena!  But shhhhhh…..)

I don’t expect any Nsync reunion, ever.  Justin Timberlake (or JT as I like to call him) has done just fine on his own, thank you very much.  The other guys have gone their own ways too.

But back to BOY bands, now performing as MEN.  I know that some of the best shows out there are older men reviving their younger days.  The Rolling Stones, U2, Queen…..all still VERY popular and selling out tours.  But they did not start out as BOY bands.  They started out as rock bands, and are still rock bands.  There is a difference.

Watching Nick & Knight doing their little dance steps and trying to look cool on the tiny GMA stage made me feel…..sorry for them.  If they want to be taken seriously, and not as another boy band revival, they should get their shit together and act like men and sing like men.  Men singing to little tweeners and making them scream just seems wrong on so many levels.

It’s ok for ME to still remember the crazy boy band days and sing and dance to them.  I am not doing it for fame or money.  I am doing it for fun.  And maybe they are too, and collecting a paycheck for it to boot!

But I’m sorry, it makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Thanks, TMZ

riceRay Rice was “let go” by the Ravens and “suspended” by the NFL on Monday.  But this did not happen until TMZ showed the WHOLE elevator video of when he PUNCHED and KNOCKED OUT his fiancée in an elevator, and afterwards never even checked to see if she was ok, just dragged her mostly out of the elevator and pushed her around a bit.  And trust me, if other people hadn’t walked up, he would have left her there, with the elevator doors dinging on her legs.  Previously, we only saw the aftermath of the punch.  And he only got a TWO game suspension.  Not sure how I feel about this whole thing.  People get thrown in jail for smoking weed, and this guy pretty much almost got away with this whole thing.  They were BOTH arrested after the incident, and Rice pleaded NOT GUILTY to third-degree aggravated assault.  No more charges can be filed against him now, because he did a 6 month “intervention” program.  Also, their wedding was moved up, and Janay married the man.  And as we all know from the cop/lawyer shows on TV, a wife can’t testify against her husband.

What makes a woman stay with a guy like that?  What makes a woman marry a guy like that?  The children?  The fame and fortune?  Wish I knew the answer to that.  There are lots of shelters full of women like her, who finally had enough.  I was talking to a male “friend” about it just tonight.  He basically said she deserved it, since she married him afterward.  (Really?  Seriously put the last straw in THAT relationship!)

I think everyone needs to see the WHOLE video, the one that TMZ put out there this morning.  The one that the NFL probably saw before, and did nothing about it.  I mean, come on, it was a hotel elevator cam.  You think nobody else saw this before TMZ?  Please.

Studies have shown that male athletes are more prone towards domestic violence.  I won’t quote statistics here, because they are all different depending upon your perspective, but it definitely is true.  Maybe due to the violent nature of their sport.  Maybe due to their own upbringing.  Maybe due to drugs and alcohol.  Maybe due to all of these things.

Whatever the reason, NOTHING should excuse a man punching a woman and knocking her unconscious.  Nothing.  End of story.  This is what a woman is up against with a pro football player.

The sad thing is, that she obviously “forgave” him.  Probably wasn’t the first time he had hit her.  Probably wasn’t the last time he had hit her.  Hopefully, now that it is all in the open, it won’t happen anymore.  Hopefully it didn’t anger him to the point of taking it out on her.  Hopefully this woman, whose total privacy has been violated multiple times now, will not end up plastered all over the tabloids while this story plays out.  But she will be.

Thank God he didn’t get to play on Sunday because of the original measly 2 game suspension.  Hopefully he will never play again.  But give it a few years.  He will be back.  Just ask Michael Vick.  Of course, he only abused dogs.  But then again, sometimes there is more outrage about animal abuse than domestic abuse.  Because, as my now ex-friend said, she deserved it.  Dogs don’t make choices.  Women can.  I wish more women had more options when it comes to domestic abuse, albeit physical or mental.  No one deserves to be treated like that.  No one.

To see, or not to read. That is the question

read1Another two movies are coming out in the next few week based on books, This is Where I Leave You and The Maze Runner.  These are just a couple of many lately that are trying to become the next Twilight, or Hunger Games, and cash in on a popular book or series of books.

Harry Potter, The Hobbit…..there have been many good ones.  Then, there have been many that have died a disinterested death.  Think Beautiful Creatures, Mortal Instruments and Vampire Academy.

Ender’s Game was a great book, and I thought the movie was good.  Not too many other people did.  The Host, I still am upset about The Host.  It should have done better than it did.  I LOVED that book.  The Giver was an old book, and Jeff Bridges tried for many years to bring it to life, and finally did.  I liked it ok, again, not good reviews.

A few other fared a bit better.  Divergent was popular, so the next few are in the works, and I am glad.  The Fault in Our Stars was great, but a one off.  If I Stay did ok.

Here are some others coming up very soon that I am looking forward to.  Gone Girl, Left Behind, Mocking Jay, 50 Shades of Grey.  I’m betting that Mocking Jay (the next Hunger Games movie) and 50 Shades do very well.  I was initially not too happy with the casting for 50 Shades, but after watching the trailer, I have changed my mind.  If you are not a 50 Shades fan, I urge you to watch the trailer, you may change your mind!

Other books/series/trilogies that I love that are in the works for possible movies are Legend, The Hunt Trilogy, The Born Trilogy, The Lunar Chronicles, The Survival Trilogy, The Water Keepers, The Lorien Legacies, The Selection series, Blood of Eden, Collapse series, Shatter me series, Under the Never Sky series, The Partial Sequence series, Before I Fall, Panic, The Delirium series, The Fallen series, The Matched series, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.  Most of these books fall into the YA (Young Adult) category, and are utopian/dystopian/futuristic type books, which are very popular and appeal to a large section of both readers and movie goers.

So.  I guess I am wondering if it is better to:

1.  Read the book before the movie

2.  Just see the movie

3.  See the movie and then read the book

Reading the book before the movie tends to lead to expectations that are sometimes not fulfilled.  Some people get very upset if the movie maker takes any kind of liberty with the book at all.  Other people get lost if they haven’t read the book first because the movie leaves out plot details.  Difficult.  Very difficult.  A no win situation it seems, except for a very few lucky ones that appeal to both the book readers and movie goers.

I’m still on the fence about  it.  What do you think?

Oh, and yes, I HAVE read all of the afore-mentioned books.  Mostly in the past year or so.  Lots of time in hospitals/nursing homes. 😉

Throwback Thursday!

tbtgavinThe year was 2011.  The tour included Maroon 5, Train, and GAVIN DEGRAW.

I don’t think any of these bands were on my radar back in 2011, not really.  But now, they are 3 of my most favorite bands.  And all 3 toured together!  Gaaaaa!

I was not really into listening to “favorite bands” in my later years.  Sure, as a kid, The Beatles or The Monkees were spinning on my record player every night.  (Yes, I am THAT old!).  And in the 70’s when line dancing started, I was all in!  I loved to dance!  So I was at the clubs a lot, dancing to great music.

But once I started my career, who had time for music and dancing?  I worked anywhere from 60-90 hours a week, depending on where we were in the accounting cycle.  I didn’t have time to SLEEP, let alone worry about bands.

Then American Idol came along, and changed everything for me.  I started to really enjoy music and singing again.  More and more shows popped up, and I for one liked them all.

I was always a fan of Dancing With the Stars (DWTS).  And lo and behold, a few years ago, a singer/songwriter/piano man named Gavin DeGraw appeared.  I had NO idea who he was, so I googled him.  Wow.  He blew me away.  Such talent, and what a voice!  His dancing skills didn’t last too long on the show, but a new fan was born, in fact, thousands of them!  His twitter account blew up, and his followers are now almost 400K.  I started a special twitter account just to follow him on the show, and HE WAS MY FIRST FOLLOWER!  So that’s MY claim to fame, lol.

I always loved Adam Levine, especially when The Voice started, and loved his performance on American Horror Story (hubba hubba!)  Same with Pat from Train, love those dark haired men!

So I can’t believe that I was a day late and a dollar short of going to see all 3 of my fav bands in one place!  Something like that will never happen again, because they are all their own headlining bands.  All 3 bands have done very well over the past few years, and I love all their songs.  Gavin DeGraw is still my fav (really? lol), but I love all their music.

Was anybody out there lucky enough to have seen one of those concerts?
